Shambhala St. Petersburg is currently looking for a new Director of Culture & Decorum.

The Shambhala Office of Culture and Decorum is one of the major offices of the Governance Pillar in our Shambhala center and as part of our worldwide mandala.

Culture is the binding factor of a society, and reflects the embodiments of the Shambhala teachings in a community and a kingdom. With our forms we learn to invoke drala, infuse the community with authentic presence, and create an atmosphere that is conducive to practice and genuine communication.

Simply put, the office of Culture & Decorum exists to make people and the Center feel uplifted. This can be accomplished very simply by providing a clean, organized space and clear instruction on what should happen when.

Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Working with Center leadership to uplift the appearance of the Shambhala center, and employ guidelines provided by the Office of Culture and Decorum.
  • Train in the principles of Shambhala culture, decorum and protocol with materials provided by the Shambhala Office of Culture and Decorum and by working with the Director of this office.
  • Eventually, work with households, families and groups to incorporate Shambhala culture in their homes to create domestic elegance and generational culture. Also, support practitioners who are creating Shambhala Households by hosting discussions, and helping your community stay up‐to‐date with the available resources.
  • Work with Center leadership to enhance cultural events, celebrations and sense of community. Explore how we might express more graciousness and cheerfulness in our events and celebrations, and how our forms can be used to maintain kindness and dignity in all of our meetings and discussions.
  • Be a resource at the Center for questions regarding decorum, protocol or precedence.

There is also a lot of support for this position. You will be working closely with the existing leadership at the center, primarily the Center Director, and there is a lot of material and support from the Office of Culture & Decorum.

We are looking for someone who embodies a culture of kindness with a strong commitment to Shambhala, over a year of steady practice and involvement, and a friendly and uplifted personality who is willing to learn and be a part of a great team.

The right candidate should also be someone who is proactive and willing to take the initiative in actualizing the view of the position.

This position will remain open until filled, but we are looking to fill it soon. Please send a letter of interest to [email protected] explaining your qualifications and your wish to join our team and take on this role. Feel free to send any questions you may have to the same address.

Yours in the Vision of the Great Eastern Sun,

Travis May
