Umdze (Timekeeper) Training

with Shastri Will Ryken

January 14th

    Room: Main Shrine Room

An “umdze” is the time keeper or chant leader for sitting meditation. They serve as a model for other practitioners in the shrine room, providing an example of good posture and alert shamatha practice. Being an umdze is an opportunity to deepen your own practice while also serving others. The umdze takes the seat as an elder practitioner providing an example of all the forms we practice in our lineage.

Whether you are currently an umdze who wants to develop further in your practice,  or you are a practitioner who is familiar with the daily chants and would like to learn to umdze and understand all the shrineroom forms, you are invited to attend this training. The training is free of charge.  There is no obligation to become an umdze after the training.  We hope to see you there!

Umdzes are needed at our center to lead the public sittings on Sundays from 9 AM to 11 am. We would love to have you come out! If you can't make the training or you have questions, please contact Sue Brandon at [email protected].
