This course expands the meditation experience by cultivating the noble-heart of the mahayana teachings, opening the path to the virtue and celebration of compassion.Through practical methods, we develop kindness toward ourselves and others. We emphasize the joy and invigoration that comes from discipline. The Lion represents the qualities of cheerfulness, health, and freedom from doubt.

There is a natural inquisitiveness about other beings and about the world around us. The lion is aware of karma - causes and conditions - and is able to interact in the world with virtue. It is through the discipline of virtue that we are able to rouse cheerfulness, energy, and joy in our life.

Prerequisite: Contentment in Everyday Life is recommended but not required.

We encourage participants to also take the Level III Weekend Retreat: Warrior in the World, a weekend retreat that is a companion to this class.

About the Way of Shambhala:

The Way of Shambhala is composed of Shambhala Weekend Retreats Levels I-V, each followed by a five-week course that expands upon what was offered in the weekend and brings the practice of meditation into everyday life.

Over the course of a year, the Way of Shambhala introduces the entire Shambhala path. This series offers a glimpse of the Shambhala vision of enlightened society by emphasizing the ways in which meditation can impact our daily lives, and from there, how the sanity of meditation can expand to impact our community and our whole society.
